Source: Internet providers continue broadcasting DW in Russia

MOSCOW, Feb 4 (PRIME) -- Russian providers cannot disconnect German TV channel Deutsche Welle without an official letter from the communications service, which they have not received yet, a source close to one of the networks told PRIME on Friday.

“None of the Internet providers can switch off any channel on media reports, we must be guided by official letters from the communications service or someone else…Correspondingly, nobody can disconnect Deutsche Welle without the communications regulator’s service,” the source said.

Deutsche Welle broadcasts under a license agreement, which the company signs with the owners of the Internet signal, this is why this channel can still broadcast.

The Foreign Ministry said earlier that in response to the closure of broadcasting of TV channel RT DE, Russia closed Deutsche Welle’s local news bureau, cancelled accreditation of all its local staff and stopped satellite and other broadcasting of the channel. A ministry source told PRIME then that if Germany revises its position on RT DE, Russia will reciprocate.
